The Problem

In these times we need to take every precaution in our homes to protect our families against home invasions. The Trapdoor Buddy is a security device to prevent unauthorised entry through a ceiling trapdoor.

Security devices are generally well known. These devices typically comprise security gates for external doors, burglar proofing for windows, infrared monitors for detecting motion, local and remote alarm systems and electric fencing. However, even with all the aforementioned security measures in place, one location of any residential or business premises remains vulnerable to entry by perpetrators, that is, the ceiling trapdoor.

By simply removing a few roof tiles, the criminal is able to gain entry into the roof space. Once inside the roof, the ceiling trapdoor provides the intruder with a passageway to silently enter and exit the premises. For residents of townhouse complexes beware that you do not share a common roof space with your neighbours or have flimsy fire walls.

The Solution

Some people have devised methods of locking their trapdoors so as to prevent unauthorised access. However, many of these methods are impractical and unattractive. When the trapdoor is secured merely with a bolt or lock the existing trapdoors can be buckled and manoeuvre d so that they are forced through the ceiling opening. The trapdoor is a weak link in regards to your home security,but not anymore with the Trapdoor Buddy.

The Trapdoor Buddy comprises of a decorative panel mounted to the underside of the existing trapdoor. Being painted and bevelled this panel is more aesthetically pleasing than the existing trapdoors normally found in homes. The panel is secured with tamperproof bolts fitted to the existing trapdoor, the existing trapdoor is reinforced to prevent it from being bent or twisted to fit through the central opening. The decorative panel is held in place by wing nuts to allow easy access from inside the house. This prevents the trapdoor from being opened from the roof space. Simple, innovative, effective and easily affordable.

The Trapdoor Buddy can also be hinged for convenience.

As an option, magnetic contacts can be fitted to allow the installation of either a local alarm or a connection to an existing alarm system. The latter option would be in conjunction with your security provider.
